At the end of the Win XP era, the previous owner commissioned a builder
to assemble a system with excellent XP compatibility.
This Asus system straddles the older vs newer from those times:
Old:
VGA + S-Video on a MSI MN35 AGP 8x card
Game port
3x PATA/IDE connectors, 1 40GB PATA drive
included with Lubuntu 16.04 32 bit install
3.5" floppy drive
Firewire (2x)
RS-232 serial
DDR1 memory (1GB)
PS/2 keyboard/mouse
CDRW (no DVD)
Readable XP home whitebox OEM license sticker,
no install disc included
New:
AMD Athlon 64 (bit) 3200+ CPU
DVI connector on the MSI NV35 video card
(low DVI-HDMI adapters available due to compatible video signaling)
Digital and 6-channel sound interfaces
4x SATA connector on board
This is a well cared for collector's item which can illustrate
the power of AGP video cards at their peak.
Licensed, DRM-free copies of Quake (1) and Quake III Arena from
Good Old Games are
included in this bundle.
An extremely poor choice for a day to day computer in 2023. A few
hundred dollars can go so much further elsewhere in the secondary market.
This is an expensive tower system for those who those who appreciate the
retro collectability.
Additional notes
AGP 8x video card is MSI NV35 with Nvidia GeForce FX 5900XT chipset.
Receives additional power through a molex connector.
Additional PATA and/or SATA hard drives may be included as a bonus, check back for update
